initially saw this car at a show and asked if it was for sale, as you do – it was! After purchasing and a couple of rallies, my sponsor, South Cerney Engineering, did a rebuild and I did another couple of rallies till the Tour of Epynt in Wales.
Engine; Lotus 681M L’ block bored to 85mm, Lotus crank and rods, Powermax pistons specially machined to reduce compression ratio and risk of valve contact, steel square main caps, Lotus front pulley and flywheel—clutch assy and distributor, BCF2 Piper cam, 40 DCOEs, oil cooler, HP/HC oil pump.
Body; Fully strengthened and gusseted big wing shell, steel 8rches on beck f/glass on front, full FlA Safety Devices c8ge, full works dash, Halda tripmaster and Smiths stopw8tch, aircraft dash lighting, Billover seats, Britax full harness, dual circuit brakes with twin internally mounted servos, world cup Bilsteins and springs—Armstrong shocks on back, inboard turreted, master switches, twin fuel pumps feeding off a Ford C8pri tank, 4:4 LSD, all lines inside, Cibie Biodes, Dunlop SPR3’s on steels and MKII M&S, steel sumpguard. 4th in RAFMSA champs’ in 1978 after starting half way through the season. Retired from rallying on The Epynt Stages with 2 half shaft bearings gone, no pace notes and thick fog & to cap it all an Avenger passed us – forget it!! I was totally dejected and decided that I was going to call it a day unless proper finance came my way…. it didn’t.
